1. Why the hell is Tim Ruskell not been totally eliminated from the GM conversation? It’s sweet that the Chicago Bears gave him an interview, but he should be officially out of the picture. His track record in Seattle makes Jerry Angelo look like Ted Thompson of the Packers on draft day. Just because the guy is around doesn’t make him a front runner. Welcome to Chicago Bears logic…

2. Phil Emery is many insiders frontrunner for the GM job. Did anyone notice that the Kansas City Chiefs have finished with a worse record than the Chicago Bears the last two seasons? This is a disaster waiting to happen if he gets the job and a typical underspend by the Chicago Bears. You can print this and hold me to what I am about to say…and if I’m wrong, I will admit it…but this will be as bad if not a worse hire than Ruskell. Emery will ruin the Chicago Bears.

3. Many suggest that Emery is a tireless worker. Why is that a good trait? If you do any job, wouldn’t you put forth your best effort? I do not compliment effort, I compliment results. If a job can be done well in half the time, who gives two craps that the other guy spent more hours sucking at his job? Make this simply about results and not effort…

4. Jason Licht is the other candidate brought in for a second interview. How awesome is it that the Bears bring in a guy from the best organization in football??? I seriously wonder if Ted Phillips is effing with all of us. All I know is that the Patriots have talent, and when they lose talent like Brandon Meriweather, they replace it with better talent. Meanwhile, the Bears have worse talent like Brandon Meriweather. OK, so you get my point…obviously the Patriots recognized that Meriweather sucked and replaced him. On the other hand, the Bears added Meriweather and the results are fairly obvious.

5. Chicago Bear Jew is freaking angry…this should be a turning point and instead it’s business as usual at Halas Hall.

One Rant to “Six Random Thoughts on the Chicago Bears GM Search...”

  1. Ed says:

While I am not at all excited about the way this has gone down and who the Bears have settled for, to compare the KC Chiefs record to ours this last two seasons as an indictment on Emery is not fair. Emery was the director of college scouting. He had nothing to do with who Pioli ultimately decided on OR how those players were developed/used. Now don’t get me wrong, I am not at all excited about Emery as our new GM. I was so exicted when I heard the news that Jerry Angelo was fired. That excitement turned to disdain as soon as I heard Ted and George open their pieholes at the 4pm press conference. When I learned that George “on the surface” had little to do with this decision an it was all Ted…..(yeah like we are supposed to believe that), and then listened to Ted talk about the new GM search and the fact that Lovie was contingent on any new GM walking in the door….my erection immediately went away. When he went on to say, that there are a long list of candidates that would be honored to come to be the GM for the Chicago Bears and work (for) with Lovie…I soiled myself.

More of the same from the incompetent inept front office that is the Chicago Bears.

Now here is the bigger problem….A blind mentally challenged monkey would be an improvement over Jerry. In fact, the only one who could walk in to Halas Hall and do worse is probably Matt Millen.

That being said….We are in the same position we were in when we hired Lovie Smith back in the day. Anyone would have been an upgrade over what we had. That has lead us to where we are today, a team which is OVERALL mediocre at best…with flashes of greatness. The problem? Emery will come in, make some moves….good OR bad, will be better than Jerry…and the team will by circumstance show a some signs of improvement. Bears “fans” will be happy…continue to buy…they will extend Lovie Smith’s contract…and we will be in for another fucking decade of mediocrity.

When will the Chicago Bears front office set their sights above just doing a little bit better….and strive for greatness?
