Khalil Bell May not be Happy

Since Michael Bush is in the fold after signing the 4 year/14 million deal yesterday … how does Khalil Bell feel right now? Bell has not been outspoken and has not said anything about the Bush signing, unlike Matt Forte. Bell now goes from Matt Forte’s backup to the 3rd string running back. To be honest, I thought Bell would be given the backup job with his hard play last season. However, with a running back like Bush whom came cheap, it’s does not surprise me that much.

When Bell has been give the chance to play/start, he has made all of it count. He has played very well and deserved the chance to prove himself. The Bears tendered him the 1-year, 1.26 million contract right before the start of free agency (March 13th).

The last few seasons, the Chicago Bears have tried to sign a good backup to Matt Forte and it did not go well at all. The Bears gave Chester Taylor a good contract 2 seasons ago and last season Marion Barber was signed. Taylor did not go well and was released the following season in favor of Barber. The Barber signing did not go good either and he could be released any day now. I thought the Bears would have learned their lesson and give Bell the backup job. However, Bush is better than Taylor and Barber and it may be worth the gamble.

There’s only one way Bell will get time playing, if Forte does in fact holdout. Like I have been saying, I don’t think he will and  both sides will agree to a contract at sometime. But the signing of Bush, didn’t help their case at all.

Depth chart as of now: 1) Matt Forte, 2) Michael Bush, 3) Khalil Bell.

The next move that I see the Bears making is the release of Marion Barber. There’s no room for him and everybody knows he’s a goner. The move will also save the Bears about 1.7 million in cap space.

Other news and notes:
*Bears free agent CB Corey Graham has signed with the Baltimore Ravens.
*OL Frank Omiyale has signed with the Seattle Seahawks. The Bears released him earlier in the off-season.
*Bears FA QB Caleb Hanie could sign with the Denver Broncos. He had a meeting with them.
