The Theo Epstein Watch may finally be coming to a close.
According to a report from The Boston Herald, Epstein is “on the cusp” of leaving the Boston Red Sox for the Cubs vacant GM position. The report also said that an announcement could come in the next 24 to 48 hours.
While a deal isn’t done, and neither side has been talked to about the multiple reports that have surfaced, there are still some things to work out if Epstein is, in fact, leaving Beantown for the North Side.
That report states that Epstein will have bigger powers than he currently has with the Red Sox. Could that mean a presidency? There’s also a matter of compensation.
That latter half is what has Cubs fans weary of a possible Epstein arrival. Could it be a top tier prospect that Boston asks as compensation? Or could one of the reports be true and the Sox ask for someone like Matt Garza?
No matter the case, it’s likely that we will know very soon.
