Former MLBer Elijah Dukes tried to eat bag of weed during traffic stop
Former Tampa Bay Rays and Washington Nationals outfielder Elijah Dukes was a talented, but troubled guy during his time in the major leagues. Since playing his last game with the Nationals in 2010, Dukes has been arrested multiple times and served substantial jail time.
Reports this morning about Dukes’ most recent arrest, however, just might be the strangest of them all.
Dukes was pulled over by Tampa Bay Police overnight– around 1:00 am– for a routine traffic stop. As officers approached the car to speak to Dukes they found flakes of marijuana on his shirt and he was in the process of trying to eat a small bag of marijuana.
Yes, I said eat a small bag of marijuana.
The former major-leaguer was charged with possession of marijuana, tampering with evidence, possession of drug paraphernalia, and three counts of driving with a suspended license according to a report from the county sherrif’s office.
Little doubt is left that Elijah Dukes is a troubled soul that needs to be set straight by someone outside of his own inner circle. Dukes’ life has spiraled out of control since he hung up the cleats.
Anyone willing to eat a bag of pot in plain sight of an officer has moved on to another plane of existence.
Here’s hope that Elijah Dukes finds the help he needs before it’s too late.
