Floyd Mayweather Supports Gay Marriage, Unlike Manny Pacquiao

By Riley Schmitt

Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are still engaged in a rivalry, even though the chances that the two actually meet in a boxing ring are slim to none.  Pacquiao caused a stir when he said he did not support gay marriage.  Floyd Mayweather, on the other hand, believes that everyone should have the right to get married if they so choose to.

“I stand behind President Obama & support gay marriage.”

I’m an American citizen & I believe people should live their life the way they want.”

I can neither confirm nor deny Floyd Mayweather’s support of gay marriage but this seems oddly timed to me.  Did he see a chance to get a leg up on his biggest rival and get some fans back?  Floyd Mayweather is not the easiest person in the world to like and he may be trying to get some fans.

However, I think Floyd Mayweather is correct in expressing how he feels.  If he truly feels this way, good for him for saying his beliefs.  Some people are afraid to speak out on the topic due to a fear of backlash.  Money decided that now was a good time to express his support for gay marriage.

The battle about gay marriage is far from over, just like the battle between Floyd Mayweather and Pacquiao.  Maybe someday the two greats will meet in the ring.  Until then, we just have to speculate on what could happen and their never ending verbal war.
