UFC on FOX 8 took place from the Key Arena in Seattle, Washington Saturday night. In the main event, Demetrious Johnson defended his flyweight championship again John Moraga. The fight went well into the fifth round, before ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson decided to end it via submission:

The end of the fight came with only 1:17 left, making it the latest a fight has ever been stopped in UFC history. Earlier in the bout Johnson had tried unsuccessfully to put Moraga in a kimura lock, so his corner had instructed him to ‘go for the arm’ the next time Moraga went to block the kimura. It worked to perfection as Mighty Mouse cinched in the armbar for the victory.

Johnson could have easily just finished out the fight on auto pilot because he was well ahead on everyone’s scorecard, but that’s not the type of fighter he is.

“Even though I was ahead on the scorecards, I’ve never just relaxed and just coasted by. My job is to finish and to push the pace. I just took it and so happened it happened,” said Johnson.

Johnson only took one serious blow from the challenger during the bout and the rest of the time he was dominant, going 12-12 on takedowns. It should also but pointed out that Moraga is a two-time All-american college wrestler, making the takedowns that much more impressive.

This fight marked Johnson’s second defense of the flyweight championship and the win improves his record to 18-2-1, overall.
