20 Sports Teams That Will Always Be Irrelevant

A young trio of promising pitchers could change this eventually, but it's been a long time since the New York Mets were relevant. They aren't ever consistently good, and it's going to be an uphill climb back to relevance.

There was a time that the Philadelphia 76ers were a great franchise. They're far removed from those days though, and they're one of the worst teams in the NBA. They could develop some young talent eventually, but for now, it doesn't seem like they're going to be competitive for quite some time.

The Colorado Rockies have a great lineup for right now, but as usual, their pitching staff is pretty awful. Until they can get that situation taken care of, Colorado is not going to have a competitive baseball team.

Things are starting to look up for the Buffalo Bills, but it will still be a couple years before they're competitive. Even so, nothing is guaranteed and the Bills have been as irrelevant as you can get in the NFL for the better part of a decade.

The Detroit Pistons were a once great team in multiple generations, but they've fallen from grace recently. They're one of the more pitiful teams in the NBA currently, and it's going to take a lot to make them competitive again in the near future.

Even though the Arizona Cardinals were 10-6 last season, they just don't seem like a classic football franchise. They don't have the history of other teams, which doesn't make a huge difference logistically, but it does make them seem less likely to jump into the national spotlight in the future.

The Atlanta Hawks never seem to be more than average. Occasionally, they flirt with being contenders, but never quite reach that point. Simply because it would be hard for them to recruit high-quality free agents, the Hawks don't seem ready to be relevant anytime soon.

When Dwight Howard was in Orlando, the team was usually pretty good. However, ever since he left in a very public way, the team has been in shambles. Even in a weak Eastern Conference, the Orlando Magic don't seem ready to make a run for quite some time.

The Brooklyn Nets went all out to get a semi-talented and overaged roster last season, and it exploded in their face. Now they seem like they're ready to rebuild and Jason Kidd's strange exit points to the fact that there are several problems in the front office and the locker room.

They're improving, but let's be honest, Michael Jordan is as bad an owner as he was a great player. Until this team actually starts building from the bottom down, they will never be relevant in the NBA.

Most of Cleveland is used to futility in their sports teams, but the Cleveland Browns are the worst of all. Not even Johnny Football can save them for now, and until they turn it around, the Browns will continue to be a running joke in the sports world.

Despite their great fanbase, the Sacramento Kings never seem to be relevant in the NBA. While things are looking up for them, the Kings haven't won a championship in more than 50 years and they're one of a handful of teams in sports that has experience futility for that long.

First of all, Columbus is a really bizarre place to put an NHL team. Since they don't have the fan support of other teams, or the talent on the court, it could be a while until the Columbus Blue Jackets are truly competitive in the league.

Once star Kevin Love leaves, this team will be in the hole even more. Not since they had Kevin Garnett have they been good at all and even when he was with the team, they never truly competed for a title. This is a franchise that is one of the furthest away from a championship in basketball.

With Mark Sanchez under center recently, the New York Jets had plenty of forgettable moments. They've become a running joke in the sports landscape, and they seem far from competing for a Super Bowl anytime soon.

After completing one of the worst NBA seasons in recent memory, the Bucks are Milwaukee reeling. Even though they added possible future star Jabari Parker, the team isn't going anywhere soon. Their fanbase cares far more for their football team, so the Bucks will always be playing second fiddle.

Incredibly, the Detroit Lions became the first team to lose every single game of a 16-game regular season. Since then, they've improved, but they've shown a proficiency to choke. Even when they have talented players, they seem like one of those teams that always will underachieve.

Even though they're led by All-Star Anthony Davis, the New Orleans Pelicans aren't going anywhere soon. There are too many talented teams in the NBA and the Pelicans simply aren't in a market that allows them to win championships.

The Phoenix Coyotes' average attendance is absolutely pitiful, and that's part of the reason the team almost moved. Without fan support, it's hard to put a winning product on the ice, and that's exactly what Phoenix has failed to do in recent memory.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are probably the most pitiful franchise in sports. They aren't going to be competing for championships anytime soon, and they have very little fan following. For anyone following the Jaguars, it could be quite some time before they're content with their team's play again.
