Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Appointed Global Cultural Ambassador
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced the appointment of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to global cultural ambassador earlier today.
Abdul-Jabbar will travel worldwide and help teach young people the advantages of promoting diplomacy while using his own experiences to connect with them. Secretary Clinton and the United States believe it is crucial the younger generation understands the importance of diplomacy and what it can do for the world. His first trip will be to Brazil from January 22-28.
“I am excited and honored to serve my country as a Cultural Ambassador for the U.S. Department of State,” said Abdul-Jabbar. “I look forward to meeting with young people all over the world and discussing ways in which we can strengthen our understanding of one another through education, through sports, and through greater cultural tolerance.”
Abdul-Jabbar has used his legendary status to help children get a good education and promote multiple philanthropic causes.
He is the NBA’s all-time leading scorer with 38,387 points.
