Reports : Cavs Interested in Hornets C Kaman
Derick E. Hingle-US PRESSWIRE

CLEVELAND, OH – According to Mary Schmitt Boyer of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Cleveland Cavaliers are interested in Hornets center Eric Kaman.

Kaman, who will turn 30 on April 28th, was recently acquired along with point guard Eric Gordon and forward Al-Farouq Aminu in part of the Chris Paul trade with the Los Angeles Clippers, has been placed on the trading block.

Kaman is currently earning $14 million down in New Orleans, is the oldest player on a team that is looking to rebuild by landing young talent and prospects.

Teams that are rumored to be interested in Kaman are Houston, Indiana, Utah and San Antonio.

Kaman, who will become an unrestricted free agent, has averaged 9.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 17 games for the Hornets.

If Cleveland is indeed interested in landing Kaman, then they will most likely have to give up at least one of it’s extra picks in the 2012 NBA Draft in addition to a young prospect such as swingmen Christian Eyenga, Manny Harris or center Semih Erden.

Another possibility for Cleveland would be to trade power forward Antwan Jamison—along with his $15 million dollar contract—and a conditional draft pick to New Orleans for Kaman and his expiring deal.

One of the benefits of a Kaman trade is that it will allow current center Anderson Varejao to slide back into his natural position of power forward, which will only increase Varejao’s effectiveness for Cleveland.

If Cleveland does make such a move for Kaman and throws in Jamieson, a potential front line of Tristan Thompson, Varejao and Kaman could wreak havoc on opposing centers in the rough-and-tumble Eastern Conference.

Cleveland will have to convince Kaman to sign an extension if a trade does indeed happen, but with the youth and talent that the Cavaliers have in Irving, Thompson and Varejao, do not be too surprised if the Cavaliers make a run at Kaman.
