Why Milwaukee Bucks Are A Dangerous Team To Play
Jeff Hanisch-US PRESSWIRE

The Milwaukee Bucks have won six of their last eight games and are taking the NBA by storm.

Forget the NBA team statistics and don’t pay any attention to what happened in the first week of the season. The Bucks are playing a different style of basketball without an injured Andrew Bogut and a frequently benched Stephen Jackson.

The Bucks have no interest in who they are facing each night or what their expectations may be, all they care about is how they are going to beat their opponent in the next 48 minutes. Milwaukee uses an in your face, hardnosed, aggressive defense that repeatedly wears the opposing team down.  When the other team finally thinks they have figured out a way to beat the Bucks, head coach Scott Skiles sends in a completely different secondary squad that have the potential to outscore the starters. The only time to rest is timeouts, halftime and when the game is finally over.

Point guard Brandon Jennings will wear down opponents with his quickness and high-percent three point shooting. When defenses finally figure out a way to stop him, he dishes the ball to several other players that can make any given shot on the court. Drew Gooden is playing his best basketball in years and controls the game in the paint. He is also able to drop back to the perimeter and sink shots.

The Bucks are a team that will never quit as they truly believe they can beat any given opponent on any given night. A good example of this the game last night against the 16-6 Miami Heat. The game looked like it could have been over in the first half when the Heat was up as many as 18 points with LeBron James scoring a season-high 24 in the first quarter. Milwaukee was down 13 heading into halftime but were not about to fall over for the defending Eastern Conference champions. The Bucks exploded in the second half holding the Heat to 37 points while scoring 58 of their own to win the game 105-97. Milwaukee has accounted for a third of Miami’s losses this season and is the only team in the league to defeat the Heat twice.

The Bucks have extremely talented shooters that are getting coached up to play outstanding one-on-one defense. Shaun Livingston is resurrecting his career as the starting shooting guard while Mike Dunleavy and Carlos Delfino are hitting long-range shots at will. Ersan Ilyasova continues to be one of the most underrated players as he averages 15.0 points and 7.4 rebounds in 22.5 minutes per game coming off the bench. Defensive specialist Luc Richard Mbah a Moute continues to keep some of the best players in the league checked while rookies Jon Leuer and Tobias Harris have shown the potential to shine in this league.

Milwaukee takes a defense first approach, something many teams are not use to seeing. Everyone wants to try and outscore the opposing team instead of getting down and dirty. Skiles has proven that a good defensive team can beat a good offensive team which is something he will preach for the rest of the season.

The Bucks record may only be 10-11 as of right now but talk to me in a month and we will see where they are at. Milwaukee is quietly climbing the standings and becoming a team nobody is going to want to play down the stretch.
