How Much Better Can Spurs Be With Ginobili?
Soobum Im-US PRESSWIRE

San Antonio’s offensive has been successful so far without Manu Ginobili, currently ranked 8th in the NBA averaging 98 points per game. Tony Parker has been playing out of his mind as of late, scoring 42 and 37 points in two of the recent games versus Philadelphia and Oklahoma City.

San Antonio’s offense has been led by Parker. However, Tim Duncan has been playing much better lately, averaging 16 points and 12 rebounds for his last five games. Those are solid numbers for a guy who is not going to be playing in the all star game this season.

All that has been done without one of the big three, who has now returned. Manu Ginobili scored eight points, dished out four assists, and pulled down a rebound in just 17 minutes of play. He was 4-7 shooting, but admitted that his shooting legs are not in him yet. He is going to take some time to get them, but just how much better can this offense be?

Kawhi Leonard, Gary Neal, and Daniel Green have been taking turns filling the void left by Ginobili. When healthy, Manu has a scoring threat that adds another dimension to this offense that defenses must defend. Leonard, Neal, and Green have been streaky players for the Spurs, where one game one of those three will have a big game and the others decent.

With Ginobili back, his scoring threat is much more constant. He can shoot the ball, create his own shots, and create shots for others. All the Spurs on the floor will benefit, especially the three point spot up shooters like Jefferson with his shot from the corner. Neal, Green, and Bonner have decent deep shots that will have many open looks.

It will be interesting to see how the dynamic of this offense changes as Ginobili becomes healthier and gets back into basketball shape, but one thing is for certain: this offense is only going to get better.
