The New York Knicks received some bad news Saturday when they learned that the “Linsanity” has come to a screeching halt this regular season. Point guard Jeremy Lin will be sidelined for the rest of the regular season due to a knee injury that will require surgery.

Lin has a small chronic meniscus tear in his left knee and he will need to undergo arthroscopic knee surgery. He could miss up to six weeks. Lin will miss the rest of the regular season and possibly the first round of the playoffs if the Knicks made it.

The first name that got mentioned after Baron Davis in taking over the Knicks’ point guard duties was Chinese Basketball Association superstar Stephon Marbury.

The Knicks have not contacted Marbury but the New York Post’s Marc Berman did and asked what Marbury would do if the Knicks, being that Mike D’Antoni is no longer with the team, contacted him about playing for New York. Marbury said that he would do nothing.

Marbury is coming off a Chinese Basketball Association championship where he scored 42 points in the series-clinching game. Marbury is kind of a big thing in China and it seems like he will not move just yet.

The Knicks do not actually need Marbury because they do have incredible depth at point guard. Behind Lin, the Knicks have Baron Davis, Toney Douglas, Mike Bibby and the team could even use Iman Shumphert at the point guard slot if they really need to.

New York does not need to hit the panic button just yet. They still have a season to salvage.
