The Houston Rockets are not anywhere near the NBA playoffs but they are still in the news.  One of their scouts by the name of David Patrick has been suspended for one year due to violations of the player contact rule during the lockout.  Basically, you could not talk to anyone but Patrick did anyways.

There is no word on who he talked to or what it was about.  Patrick could have been trying to reach out to potential free agents or possibly players on the Rockets to discuss possible contract extensions.  Either way, it was against NBA rules and Patrick will now have to pay the price.  I can’t imagine scouts make a ton so a year suspension is a pretty good smack.

I am actually surprised that we did not see more of this happen.  There had to be some back room dealings with players during the lockout.  If you were not attempting them, I have to think that you were falling behind the curve.  Otherwise, the opponents get the leg up on you and you are left out in the cold.

Patrick had only been with the club a brief time, so it is not like he made a great impression.  Getting booted for a year isn’t exactly the way to great job security.  I would imagine that he would not be brought back after this incident, but who knows?  He could be great at his job.
