Mario Chalmers says he is a Top 10 point guard
Mario Chalmers after game four of the NBA Finals.

Mario Chalmers seems to have gained too much confidence from winning an NBA championship.

After Rajon Rondo recently called himself the best point guard in the league, Chalmers gave his outlook and opinion on the ranking as well.

There are a lot of great guards in the NBA so for him to say he’s the best is a pretty bold statement. I’d say that I am in the front end of the top 10,” Chalmers said.

So basically he said that he is a top five point guard right?

So why did he finish 13th in assists per game in the 2012 postseason among all point guards? Why did he finish eighth in steals per game in the 2012 postseason among all point guards? Why did he finish 13th in points per game in the 2012 postseason among all point guards?

The numbers don’t support the latest statement from the four year pro who is on a list with the likes of Magic Johnson, Isiah Thomas, and Henry Bibby as the only point guards to win both a National Championship and NBA Championship.

He did score 25 points (12 in the fourth quarter) in game four of the NBA finals propelling the Miami Heat pass the Oklahoma City Thunder after LeBron James left the game due to cramping, and he is a proven clutch shooter. But in the totality of the position he is miles away from Chris Paul, Rondo, Deron Williams, Derrick Rose, and even Russell Westbrook.

In fact Westbrook and Rondo both had career postseason scoring highs against the Heat in Miami.

Mario Chalmers averaged 11.3 points per game and 3.9 assists per game in the postseason and averaged less than that during the regular season.

Is it possible to be a top five point guard without even being the dominant playmaker and ball handler on your team?

Chalmers has a new swagger that can only come from winning a championship.
