It’s one thing to ignore your teammates and it’s another to ignore your coaches. However, it’s completely brush off your boss. That’s exactly what Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo did to team owner and general manager Jerry Jones after he threw his third interception in Sunday’s 34-30 loss to the Detroit Lions.

As usual, Jones was down on the Cowboys’ sideline toward the end of the biggest collapse in franchise history. Dallas blew a 24-point lead to the Lions to fall to 2-2 on the season. While Romo had a right to be upset, he only had a right to be upset with himself. He certainly has no excuse for pulling away when Jones grabbed his arm on the sideline. You can watch the video here.

Jones reached out and grabbed Romo’s arm, but the Cowboys quarterback simply pulled his arm away and kept walking. Judging by Jones’s postgame comments, he was only going to encourage Romo. The Cowboys’ error-prone quarterback apparently didn’t care. The instance evidently didn’t bother Jones as he defended his quarterback following the loss.

“There’s no issue about faith in Romo in any place in this organization, period. Any place,” Jones said. “There’s no issue regarding Tony. I had all the confidence in the world on the last drive that he gives us the best chance to go down and score a touchdown. Didn’t get it done, but we have a lot of faith in Romo. However we go, we go with Tony. As Tony goes, we’ll go.”

As hard as that is to swallow for Cowboys fans, it’s true. After signing Romo to a six-year, $69 million extension in 2007, Dallas added three more years to his deal while reworking it to get under the 2011 salary cap. That means Romo will remain the Cowboys’ quarterback through 2016. No matter how he plays, he’ll still be the man because he’s being paid like the man. Apparently, getting paid like the man now means you can brush off the man.

    2. [...] Romo brushed Jones off on the Dallas sideline after throwing his third interception Sunday, but the Cowboys’ owner defended his quarterback afterward. If he won’t take any disciplinary actions against a player who publicly disrespected him, Jones is very unlikely to do anything about Garrett’s play-calling. There are no two members of the Cowboys’ organization who receive more praise from Jones than Romo and Garrett. In fact, Jones’s public expression of his faith in his quarterback and head coach can be nauseating at times. [...]
