The Dallas Cowboys released fourth-year running back Tashard Choice on Saturday. The Cowboys activated rookie linebacker Bruce Carter this week and cutting Choice allowed the team to make room on the active roster for Carter.
The move comes a day before the Cowboys play the Philadelphia Eagles in each team’s seventh game of the season. Choice injured his shoulder during the Cowboys’ 34-7 win over the St. Louis Rams in Week 7 and will receive an injury settlement from the Cowboys if no other NFL team claims him off waivers.
Choice was a very inconsistent running back for Dallas after playing well during his rookie season. He dropped down the depth chart after Cowboys rookie running back DeMarco Murray exploded for 253 yards and a touchdown in his first game as the featured back. Choice’s contract with the Cowboys would have ended at the end of this season.
