Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten only needs two more receptions to move from fourth to third in all-time receptions by a tight end in NFL history. Witten is averaging almost six catches per game this season with four being his lowest total in one contest, so he will pass Ozzie Newsome for third all-time in the history books Sunday against the Buffalo Bills barring an injury.
With 661 receptions, Witten currently trials Newsome by one on the all-time list. Last season, Witten became the youngest tight end in history to record 600 receptions, putting him on pace to break the all-time record held by Atlanta Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez. Of course, no one will catch Gonzalez as long as he’ll still playing. Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe ranks second on the list with 815 receptions behind Gonzalez, who has 1,108 through the first nine weeks of the 2011 NFL season.
