With every snap throughout the 2012 NFL preseason, there is one man not named Tim Tebow that will be dissected over and over.  That man is none other than Peyton Manning, QB for the Denver Broncos and future Hall of Famer.  One thing that everyone watching needs to understand though, is that it is only preseason and teams play these games for repetitions and timing on both sides of the ball.

Manning came out throwing tonight against the Seattle Seahawks and clearly was working on getting others involved with the offense.  Joel Dressens saw the ball come his way tonight for the first time and Manning’s two-minute drill looked easy.  As he peppered the ball throughout the field, hitting Jacob Tamme, Demaryius Thomas, Lance Ball and Eric Decker, timing seems to be the area that most needs work.

Manning’s stats at the half were what I consider a solid 16-23 for 177yds and 2INTs.  Alright, so he did not have a TD pass, but Manning kept himself moving in the right direction and fans should see marked improvement by the opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers.  The word for tonight should be patience with Manning as he has missed a year and a half with neck surgeries.  He is also playing with a new offensive line and weapons that do not necessarily know his every move.

This would be an adjustment for any QB and although Manning’s arm strength is not what it used to be, the Broncos and their fans have got to love the progress they have seen. Offensive Coordinator Mike McCoy must be thrilled to see how Manning is interacting with his offense and has to believe that those INTs will become TDs come the regular season.  One thing is for sure about Manning is that as long as he is able to go onto the field, he will expect more of himself than any other player on the field.  Just give him the weapons, which Denver has done, and he will deliver.

I don’t know? He looked old and slow to me.

  2. Craig Moir says:

He may have looked old, but as his timing improves, you will see a marked improvement all around. Remember that Peyton still only has 2 1/2 quarters of football behind him after a year and a half absence. I thought his two minute offense looked pretty crisp as he spread the ball around.

  3. 18chronicles says:

someone actually makes sense is writing this article. Some other player’s fans cannot talk bad about Peyton fast enough without even thinking…. those players did not follow the Colts, did not watch Peyton play and did not know what Colts pre-season records were despite winning the most games during regular season in a decade… plus now Peyton is getting back in the groove and he is right on schedule… he is working on timing and that takes time and practice…. on and on.. but to most ignorant football fans, the other player is obviously better.

  4. Craig Moir says:

Unconventional offenses look thrilling, get attention and sometimes cause sparks to fly in the eyes of fans that got used to the playoffs year after year. Denver is one of the most winningest teams in the NFL since the 1970 merger. I believe the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers are the only better teams. Fans must realize that trick offenses do not work over a sustained time. This offense with a PM at 90% will be far better and more explosive than any alternative. The real fans show up on gameday either way and will be there to see the Broncos back into the playoffs.
