The Denver Nuggets injury problems reached a ridiculous level on Monday night. Going into the night starters Nene, Timofey Mosgov and Aaron Afflalo were all out with injuries. Corey Brewer joined the list because of personal issues. By games end, starter Danilo Gallinari and Rudy Fernandez also went down to injury. Gallinari is out for at least four weeks, which is a huge blow to the Nuggets right now.

Everyone else appears on the road to recovery, but what is the cost of this condensed season? Everyone assumed the Nuggets would be better off because of their deep bench, but they also have players who work hard every night. It would appear that these players who give the extra effort are the ones going down to injury.

Look no further than Chauncey Billups, the hardest working player in basketball. Is there a chance he would have torn his Achilles tendon on a routine play last year? Yes, but the fact that there is almost no rest in the NBA this season probably had something to do with the injury. We have seen injuries across the league from Carmelo with the Knicks, to Dirk Nowitzki, to the Big 3 in Miami. No one is safe when the players are being pushed to their limits.

For the Nuggets, they must try and recover from another tough loss in which they were in the game despite being down so many players. The Nuggets have a game tonight against Dallas and tomorrow versus Golden State. They will try and regroup as they get healthier.

You have to wonder if the shortened 2012 season will be remembered as the career ender for many NBA stars. We may also have the worst playoffs in recent history this summer due to injuries and exhausted players. Will the condensed season and resulting problems result in a final black mark for David Stern’s legacy?
