Fantasy Hockey: RW Jaromir Jagr Still Defying Odds

Timothy T. Ludwig-USA TODAY Sports

It isn’t too often that a 41-year-old ends up contributing regularly to fantasy hockey lineups. Most aging stars turn into role players at that point int heir career, but New Jersey Devils RW Jaromir Jagr has been the one exception to the rule.

After 19 seasons in the NHL, Jagr is still producing on a nightly basis. He has shockingly racked up 48 points on the year, including 17 goals and 32 helpers. The veteran is even leading the entire New Jersey team in goals, assist, and points right now. He has also fired 151 shots on goal this year and the sniper has proven to be a relentless offensive threat. Not many people thought Jagr has this type of production left in his legs, but the journeyman just keeps surprising.

The Czech Republic superstar will be playing in the Olympics this month, so there is some concern on what the extra ice time will take on his body. The last thing the aging star needs is extra ice time right now, especially games that don’t count towards his fantasy numbers. Jagr’s ice time is certainly worth monitoring over the next couple weeks.

Jagr will to be a strong weekly starter down the stretch and will continue to surpass our expectations with each point. If you were smart enough to add Jagr off the wire in the beginning of the season, considering yourself one of the lucky few.
