Fantasy Baseball: Weekend Spot Starters, June 7-8
Streaming starting pitchers can be one of the most effective strategies in fantasy baseball. Who should you be looking to spot start over the June 7-8 weekend?
5. Bartolo Colon, 6/7 @ SF
5. Bartolo Colon, 6/7 @ SF
The big man owns a 1.61 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP over his past three starts. Colon has made 11 starts this year, and three of those starts have been absolute disasters He has a 2.24 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP in the other eight.
4. Josh Tomlin, 6/7 @ Tex
4. Josh Tomlin, 6/7 @ Tex
Tomlin has been excellent this season, winning three games to go with a 3.06 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 8.35 K/9 over six starts. The only thing he's struggled with is keeping the ball in the park (his 1.67 HR/9 is the 10th highest in MLB). On Saturday, he faces a Rangers team that's 28th in baseball with just 40 home runs.
3. Jose Quintana, 6/8 @ LAA
3. Jose Quintana, 6/8 @ LAA
It continues to amaze me that Quintana's ownership level isn't higher than it is. He has a 3.31 ERA to go with a 1.27 WHIP this season (along with a career 3.56 ERA and 1.27 WHIP), and he's allowed more than three runs in just one of his 12 starts this season. He's allowed two runs or fewer in seven starts.
2. Collin McHugh, 6/8 @ Min
2. Collin McHugh, 6/8 @ Min
McHugh owns a 2.52 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP and 54 strikeouts in 50 innings this season. He's allowed two runs or fewer in six of his eight starts, and he's racked up at least seven strikeouts in five of them. He's facing a Minnesota Twins offense that's been one of the worst in baseball since the start of May.
1. Drew Hutchison, 6/8 vs. Stl
1. Drew Hutchison, 6/8 vs. Stl
If you need a win on Sunday, Hutchison might be your best option among guys who are widely available. I have a feeling the Blue Jays offense is going to annihilate Jaime Garcia. Hutchison has a 3.50 ERA to go with a 1.18 WHIP and 66 strikeouts in 72 innings this season. The Cardinals' offense has been one of the worst in baseball on the road this season. Their .648 road OPS is 26th in MLB.
