5 Surprising All-Stars
Here are five All-Star hitters that have absolutely shocked fantasy baseball owners throughout the 2014 season.
5. C Devin Mesoraco, Cincinnati Reds
5. C Devin Mesoraco, Cincinnati Reds
After two separate stints on the disabled list, Mesoraco has been putting up jaw-dropping numbers. In just 57 games, Mesoraco has bashed 15 home runs and drove in 43 runs. He also has an incredible .305 batting average and the backstop is finally having that breakout season.
4. 3B Aramis Ramirez, Milwaukee Brewers
4. 3B Aramis Ramirez, Milwaukee Brewers
Ramirez played in only 92 games last season, and as a result, the 36-year-old wasn’t ranked very high this spring. However, the veteran has already racked up 11 homers and 41 RBIs on the year. He has once again proven to be a top-tier stopgap and he continues to baffle the fantasy world week after week.
3. 2B Dee Gordon, Los Angeles Dodgers
3. 2B Dee Gordon, Los Angeles Dodgers
It isn’t too shocking that Gordon is leading the majors with 42 stolen bases, but it is surprisingly what he has done with his bat this year. The speedster has a gaudy .298 batting average and a .350 On Base Percentage. Gordon has earned a trip to the All-Star game and he has taken the fantasy world by storm.
2. 2B Chase Utley, Philadelphia Phillies
2. 2B Chase Utley, Philadelphia Phillies
No one expected Utley to do anything this fantasy season, but the veteran has put up vintage Chaser numbers. He has an incredible .294 batting average to go along with eight homers and 46 RBIs. He has once again put up top-five 2B numbers.
1. OF Nelson Cruz, Baltimore Orioles
1. OF Nelson Cruz, Baltimore Orioles
Cruz was suspended for the second half of the 2013 season for PED use, so naturally many owners ignored him on draft. Shockingly, though, Cruz has put up MVP numbers this season. The veteran is tied for first in the majors with a ridiculous 28 home runs. He is also leading the league with 74 RBIs.
