2014 Fantasy Football: What Should Be Expected of Rob Gronkowski?

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski

I’m not going to go through the statistics here. We know when he’s on the field, Tom Brady and the offense are better and the New England Patriots are better.  Together, him and Tom Brady score like a bazillion touchdowns.

Yo soy fiesta, folks. It’s Rob Gronkowski. We all know what he’s capable of. We’ve seen how big he is. We’ve seen how solid his hands are. We’ve seen who his quarterback is. And we’ve seen how he may or may not be made of glass.

To quote a great billboard, “We are all witnesses.”

Hypothetically, if never hurt, we may already be jumping to drastic conclusions deeming him the best tight end of the generation (no offense to guys like Jimmy Graham and Vernon Davis — you’re both worth receiver money). But, he gets hurt. And when he gets hurt, he gets hurt. We’re talking weeks on end, or in the all too familiar case these days, a nice season-ender. As a result, guys go out and scramble for the best possible scenario, which we all know is never good. At least what he lacks in luck in regards to staying healthy, he makes up for off the field with the ladies.

Getting to the point, Gronk is Gronk and Brady is Brady. They are hands down in the top five at their positions and both can fall into the argument as the best. With news coming that Gronk plans on playing Week 1, fantasy owners can rejoice whilst still holding their breath. As long as the golden boy is still his quarterback, the production will be there. Will his body hold up, though?

Look, I want to take the risk drafting him as badly as the next owner. He’s a surefire way to lock you in with a solid amount of points each week. And if you like yards, touchdowns, receptions and all things good, he’s your guy. But, again, do you want to take the risk?

I say do it, but do it knowing the end could happen at any minute. I’m talking a 75-yard run to the house only to end with another snapped bone or torn ligament.

The guy scares the crap out of me, but we know what he can do. He’s a freak. He dominates. He’s got to go early, and he will. But where do you take him, and how early do you take him?

I say go second or third round. I know, it’s risky, but the light at the end of the tunnel is far too bright to not head toward it. Just make sure you draft a decent backup somewhere not too far down the line.
