Fantasy Football Week 2 Buy or Sell: WR Kelvin Benjamin

Kelvin Benjamin

David Manning – USA TODAY Sports

WR Kelvin Benjamin started his NFL career with an eye-opening fantasy performance. On top of that, he was named the Pepsi Rookie of the Week.

The Florida State product had many naysayers coming into the NFL as a first-round pick. They thought that Benjamin benefited from the stellar play of Heisman winner, Jameis Winston. What those naysayers may have forgotten is that he will have another Heisman-winning quarterback throwing him passes for the foreseeable future.

Last week, Benjamin caught six passes for 92 yards and an impressive touchdown (about 15 fantasy points) with Derek Anderson under center. This week, he will get Cam Newton feeding him balls. Sure, Anderson played at a respectable level, but with Newton playing, this Carolina Panther offense is so much more dynamic.

Benjamin has become the main target on the outside, along with Greg Olsen at tight end. With the addition to Newton  in the lineup, Benjamin is a legitimate high WR3 option. I would go as far as calling Benjamin a full-time flex option.

The Panthers take on the Detroit Lions in Week 2. They only allowed 144 passing yards last week, but Newton and the Panthers are way better than the New York Giants. Benjamin will most likely be covered by Rashean Mathis for most of the game. At this point in his career, he is beyond his best days. Look for Benjamin’s athletic ability to prevail.

Verdict: Buy. Start Benjamin as a high WR3 or flex option. Also, attempt to trade for him before his value gets too high.
