Fantasy Football Week 3 Waiver Wire Pickup: WR Allen Robinson

The Jacksonville Jaguars are not usually a hotbed for fantasy football owners, but with an infusion of talent this offseason, people are beginning to take a look at them. With most of their games being spent coming back from behind, Jaguars receivers are always intriguing options. Rookie Allen Robinson is no different this season.

Robinson has a chance to perform as early as Week 3 because of injuries ravaging the Jaguars’ wide receiver corps. Allen Hurns was a hot addition after Week 1, but suffered an ankle injury in Week 2 with just seconds left in a blowout 41-10 loss to the Washington Redskins. Add to that the fact Cecil Shorts is dealing with a nagging hamstring injury, and there is opportunity here for Robinson.

It is hard to rely on rookie wide receivers, but someone has to be targeted in the passing game. Robinson figures to continue getting targeted this week against the Indianapolis Colts, as he is lined up to start alongside Marquise Lee if Shorts cannot go.

While an increase in reps should result in more production, there is a huge question mark looming in quarterback Chad Henne. Henne is very limited in what he can do and has not been very efficient through two weeks this season. This in turn limits what Robinson and his receivers can accomplish, as the ball almost half the time isn’t delivered to them in a place for them to catch it and make a play.

While Robinson has a shot to produce with Hurns now sidelined, his presence in the offense takes a hit as Shorts gets closer to being healthy. Once healthy, Shorts will undoubtedly be the No. 1 option in the Jaguars’ underwhelming aerial attack. That lessens the impact that Robinson could have. If Shorts is activated this week, Robinson should stay on the waiver wire, as Lee is ahead of Robinson currently in the pecking order. If Shorts stays sidelined, Robinson is worth a roster and stash spot as a possible WR4/5 as his size makes for a great red zone target.
