2015 Fantasy Baseball: Jacob deGrom Will Be A Steal As A SP3
The New York Mets have some big names at the front of their rotation as we start looking towards the start of the 2015 season. Superstar Matt Harvey will be returning from Tommy John Surgery to reclaim the spot as the team’s ace. Starters Zack Wheeler, Jon Neise and Dillon Gee will also be coming back, while the team still has Bartolo Colon under contract for one more season.
With all the arms currently under contract, one starter on the Mets that suddenly emerged as a fantasy baseball stud last year was Jacob deGrom.
The rookie posted a 9-6 record to go along with a sizzling 2.69 ERA. His 1.14 WHIP was somewhat high, but it was rather realistic considering the right-hander was in his first full year. DeGrom even ended the campaign by claiming the prestigious NL Rookie of the Year Award this past season.
The fireballer displayed an impressive strikeout ability by striking out 144 batters in 140.1 innings of work. DeGrom was never intimidated on the mound and was constantly attacking hitters in the batter’s box. He looked like a veteran hurler on the mound, and he went from being just another aging prospect in the team’s system, to emerging into a legitimate fantasy starter.
DeGrom will have a guaranteed spot in the rotation next season, and considering he will likely fall well outside of the top-20 starting pitchers next fall, he will be a steal as a SP 3.
