It’s no secret the Minnesota Wild are desperately fighting for their playoff lives. Once the feel good story of the NHL season, the Wild have fallen from the playoff ranks, but in a pan of four-minutes on Thursday night it looked as though they had recaptured some of their early season magic.

Trailing the Montreal Canadiens 4-1 with under four-minutes to play in the third period, Minnesota put together a furious three-goal rally capped of by a last second goal by Wild forward Devin Setoguchi.

At that moment Setoguchi was feeling on top of the world but little did he know how quickly his good fortune would change.

After a scoreless overtime the game went to the shootout. Now, the shootout is not exactly the most popular way to determine the outcome of a hockey game, especially one between two teams desperate for points. Most critics view it as a skills competition that adds little value to the action game. Nonetheless it can be very exciting – or in some cases it can be extremely embarrassing.

Unfortunately for Setoguchi, his moment in the spotlight – all alone of the ice with all eyes on him – turned out to be a complete disaster.

There is a silver line though…the Wild earned themselves a very important point in the standings and I got a good laugh.
