Howard Smith - US PRESSWIRE

Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles was carted off the field in the first quarter against the Detroit Lions with a leg injury. The injury has been diagnosed as a torn left ACL, meaning Charles will miss the rest of the season.

Charles rushed for 1467 yards last season, leading all running backs with 6.4 yards per carry. He also caught 45 passes for 468 yards.

This is the second player for the Chiefs who has torn his ACL this season. Safety Eric Berry did so last week.

To add insult to injury, the Chiefs lost the game 48-3. They lost 41-7 against the Buffalo Bills last week, and have been outscored 89-10 this season.

Thomas Jones, who rushed for 896 yards last season, is now the starting running back.
