College Football Recruiting: USC Running Back Recruits Unfazed By Addition Of Silas Redd
The USC Trojans added former Penn State running back Silas Redd to their backfield this week and put themselves firmly at the top of the 2012 national championship discussion. But what about the coming years and the Trojans recent college football recruiting success? Will the addition of Redd make the talented Trojan backfield too crowded for the incoming Men of Troy?
According to four-star running back recruit Justin Davis, not one bit. Davis applauds the move and says that Redd being there won’t affect his recruitment in the least. In fact, it makes him even more excited to get on campus. If Redd is still there when Davis joins the team next spring (he plans to early enroll), the young runner looks forward to a “great experience” learning from the talented transfer.
More pressing to USC and Trojan fans is the health of Davis, who suffered a bruised shin during the Champion Gridiron Kings even at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports complex in Florida last weekend. Davis, representing the West team, is still a bit sore from the injury, but reported that it hasn’t gotten any worse, which is a good sign. Davis predicts he’ll be back at full strength “in a week,” so breathe easy Trojan fans.
Davis is excited to have the hectic camp season over with and he can focus on his senior season in high school. Once that’s done, he’ll enroll early at USC with fellow running back recruit Ty Isaac, another four-star commitment. Isaac, who is rated slightly higher than Davis, will follow a similar plan, playing his senior season before early enrolling at USC to join the team for spring practices next season. The two formed a relationship when they met at The Opening, and are looking forward to becoming the next great rushing duo at USC. Isaac isn’t worried about Redd joining the depth chart either.
There was some concern about how USC recruits would react to the addition of a talent like Redd ahead of them. For 2013, it’s not going to change a thing. USC has long found success stocking up on talented rushers, filling their backfield with so much talent that the fourth string runner would often be a featured back at most any other university in the country. Davis and Isaac have bought into that model and look forward to joining the ranks, no matter how crowded it seems this year.
