NCAA Football: Marquise Goodwin fails to medal
Texas Longhorn WR Marquise Goodwin failed to metal at the London Olympics in the Long Jump. He ended up finishing in 10th place.
After his first and only jump on Friday, Goodwin qualified for the finals after meeting the standard mark and jumping further than anyone in the qualifying rounds with a jump of 8.11 meters.
The qualifying standard is a pre-set distance that the jumpers must achieve in order to reach the finals. Jumpers get three chances to meet that mark, but once you reach it, you no longer need to attempt it.
Today’s results weren’t as positive however. He needed all three attempts to reach the 7.93 meter mark to advance to the metal round of 8.
His first attempt was a scratch. His second attempt was 7.80 meters, and his third and final jump fell even shorter at 7.76 meters.
After setting the bar high and winning the NCAA Outdoor Champions with a jump of 8.23 meters, and qualifying in June at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials with a 8.33 meter-jump, Goodwin certainly was disappointed in his results.

If he could of reached the same numbers he did at the trials, Goodwin would of brought home Gold. Great Britain’s Greg Rutherford jumped a 8.31 to win the event, and the USA’s Will Cayle finished with the Bronze with a jump of 8.12
Don’t feel too bad for Goodwin however. He gets to head back to Austin and start at WR for the Texas Longhorns and work at achieving another goal – the NFL.
