The Miami Marlins were making huge splashes during the offseason. They signed marquee free agents in Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle and Heath Bell. The Marlins were also looking to add a second upgrade to their rotation going after current Los Angeles Angels pitcher C.J. Wilson. Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports says that Wilson came close to signing with the Marlins this offseason.

Wilson’s agent Bob Garber was moments away from accepting Miami’s four-year contract offer when the Angels decided to give Wilson an extra year. Angels GM Jerry Dipoto was too preoccupied with the Albert Pujols negotiations but inevitably agreed to a deal with Wilson.

He joined a rotation that includes Jered Weaver, Dan Haren, Ervin Santana and Jerome Williams, who are all established pitchers in the big leagues. Wilson is the only left-handed pitcher in the rotation and he is listed as the fourth pitcher in the rotation after being at the top spot when he was with the Texas Rangers.

In 2011, Wilson was 16-7 with a 2.94 ERA in 34 starts. Wilson did not manage to win a single game in the playoffs though. He lost to the Tampa Bay Rays, Detroit Tigers and the eventual champion St. Louis Cardinals.

This season, Wilson is currently 2-0 so far this season with a 1.38 ERA and seven strikeouts. He managed to grab his first win of his career against the New York Yankees Saturday when he lasted six innings striking out two batters and allowing only one run the whole game. The Angles won 7-1.
