With only 2 days remaining until the start of the 2012 NFL Draft, trade buzz only continues to grow. Reports surfaced again today that Minnesota Vikings General Manager Rick Spielman, is still completely open to trading the No. 3 pick, a move which could shake up the entire first round.

This year’s 3rd selection almost carries the power of a No. 1 pick in year’s past. Now obviously the Indianapolis Colts and Washington Redskins are winning big with Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III, but those picks have been penciled in for weeks. Meanwhile, Minnesota is sitting at No. 3 with all the power.

What the Vikings do with all of this power? Can be as crazy as they want it to be.

Let’s say they do decide to trade the pick and move down. The Miami Dolphins are rumored to be high on QB Ryan Tannehill, and would be an ideal candidate for the swap. This would put the Vikings in the No. 8 spot, and almost certainly still gets them Matt Kalil, Justin Blackmon, or Morris Claiborne, the three players supposedly on Minnesota’s big board.

Obviously, some other considerations would have to be thrown in for this trade, potentially a 2nd or 3rd round pick, depending on how bad Miami wants Tannehill.

Just one trade like this to start the draft, will start a domino effect for the teams behind the Vikings. If the Cleveland Browns want Tannehill, then they will have to go to plan B, which could be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers plan A. You get the idea…

At the end of the day, if the Vikings can still get one of the three players they want, plus another pick, why not do it? Spielman clearly isn’t trying to fix the team in one year, so the more pieces they can add, the better.

I will still contend that no matter who Minnesota ends up with on Thursday, it will be a win for the franchise.
