Alfonso Soriano Out of Lineup For Cubs on Wednesday; Trade With Yankees Coming Soon?

One of the most popular trade rumors this week has surrounded the New York Yankees and their interest in possibly acquiring Alfonso Soriano from the Chicago Cubs. While he’s been inconsistent at times over the last couple of years, Soriano has arguably been one of the hottest players in baseball over the last month and while nothing is official yet–signs point a deal could be in place soon.

Soriano has been ruled out of Wednesday’s lineup against the Arizona Diamondbacks and while the team claims this is simply nothing more than a day off–it should be noted Soriano has phenomenal career numbers against starting pitcher Ian Kennedy. When taking into consideration that Soriano is 6 of 13 with three home runs in his career against Kennedy, one would think Chicago would want him in the lineup to give the team their best shot at winning unless it was absolutely necessary to keep him out.

So does this mean a trade involving Soriano to the Yankees is coming soon?

Only time will tell, but with all of the rumors swirling this week about the possibility of it happening, it certainly wouldn’t come as a surprise if the decision to give Soriano the night off had something to do with these trade rumors to the Yankees. New York could certainly use another bat like Soriano in the lineup–so keep an eye on this situation over the next 24 hours to see if this move finally goes through.
