Cody Asche

Philadelphia Phillies‘ future 3B Cody Asche has been up in the majors for a handful of weeks now and after some early struggles, he has been slowly gaining some confidence at the plate and in the field.

Tonight’s 2-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves gave SP Cliff Lee his 13th victory, but all thanks to the aforementioned Asche.

At the plate, Asche went 2-3, bringing his average up to .287 and driving in the lone two runs of the game on a first-pitch fastball from Braves starter Mike Minor. It was Asche’s fourth home run of the season and gave the Phillies a huge two-out bomb for them to take the lead and ultimately win the game.

Asche’s talents weren’t just seen at the plate tonight either. Asche made some stellar plays in the field, including a diving stop to rob Braves 1B Freddie Freeman of a base hit in the top of the fourth, and making a very tough play to get the first out of the ninth for Jonathan Papelbon.

After a tough beginning, it seems Asche is finally comfortable at the plate and in the field. His “getting called up jitters” seem to be gone for good, and the young kid is finally beginning to play some baseball like ther way he’d been doing in the minors. Cody Asche already has pure baseball instincts and as he continues to grow, he should be one of the finer Phillies of all time. As of now, we’re only seeing the tip of the iceberg.
