The crowded field of National League players that are in the running for the NL MVP includes a couple of St. Louis Cardinals. One of them is soon to be legend Yadier Molina and the other is equally impressive offensive stud Matt Holliday. Holliday is the favorite of a few people to win the award in 2013 but he should not win it this year because he did not win it last year. Allow me to explain my logic before you argue.
Last season Holliday ended with a batting average of .295 with 27 home runs and 102 RBI. This year his batting average looks to be ready to finish almost exactly the same spot. He is slightly behind last season’s pace in RBI and home runs with 89 and 20. A burst of offense over the last week of the season could help those numbers match as well so that this season is either equal to or slightly less successful than last season.
Well, you see last season he didn’t win the NL MVP; he finished 11th in the voting. There are a few guys with better numbers and one wearing the same uniform that probably has been slightly more valuable than he has been. His great season last year wasn’t quite good enough to win the big award and therefore the same type season this year should also fall a little bit short.
