Strikeforce welcomes another fighter to their women’s 135 pound division, Ring of Fire and Fight to Win champion Cat ‘Alpha’ Zingano.

On August 29, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker tweeted that Zingano will be fighting at the Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Healy event, September 28, which was later confirmed by Zingano on her twitter. Her opponent will be ‘The Lioness of the Ring’ Amanda Nunes.

Training with ZinganoBJJ in Colorado, Zingano is undefeated with six wins, with two submission and three knock outs. Her last fight was in May 2011 where she defeated Takayo Hashi by K.O. in the third round after she slammed Hashi on the canvas, followed by a delivering a couple of punches before the referee stepped in.

Nunes is currently 6-2 in mixed martial arts. In her last fight Nunes scored a first-round submission victory over Raquel Pa’aluhi at Invicta FC 2.

Zingano was originally scheduled to face Leslie Smith at Invicta FC 3, prior to Coker’s announcement. Her profile has been added to Strikeforce’s women’s roster.

However a statement released by Invicta FC president Shannon Knapp said that Invicta let Zingano out of her bout to compete in Strikeforce.

Whether the Strikeforce deal is short term or long, Zingano will be a welcome addition to the promotion’s women’s bantamweight division.

In addition to being a fighter, Zigano is also a coach and author.
