The jump from the MMA spotlight to the Hollywood big screen was a short one for UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey as well as for her contemporary Gina Carano.
The other thing happening for both fighters is the talk of them facing off in the Octagon. Carano has not had a fight in five years, so there’s no telling where her skills are at this point. If her acting is any indication, she may not want to pursue the idea, as Rousey will quickly have her submitted “in no more than 10 seconds,” according to fighter Liz Carmouche.
Acting roles have been good for the sport of MMA as well as for bankable fighters like Chuck Liddell and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. Instead of trying to orchestrate a cage fight against the two female stars, perhaps a Hollywood studio should have them face off in an action-packed blockbuster movie.
Carano could play the antagonist who is on a robbing spree and has a nasty disposition a la Nick Diaz. Rousey would become ensnared with Carano as she is fleeing from a bank building and steals Rousey’s car to get away. Rousey chases her down, pulls her out by the hair and they duke it out in an alley to the point of exhaustion.
Once a dialogue is established, they will soon realize they share a common enemy played by Cris “Cyborg” Justino. Justino’s character would be a notorious kidnapper who nabs kids and holds them for ransom under despicable conditions.
Rousey and Carano would both have missing children family members being held by Justino, and would be forced to overcome their terribly incompatible personalities in order to find the villain and free the kids. Justino’s man-friend could be played by Tito Ortiz, another fighter who has expressed interest in an acting career.
Plenty of high-octane girl vs. girl brawls would ensue, making the film an empowering statement for the female gender as the Rousey/Carano team dispatches of legions of Justino’s roided-up female goons in an arc towards the final showdown. Sounds like box office gold, right?
Maybe throw in a cameo by Danny Trejo and plenty of trash talk just for street credibility. It’s a win win situation. MMA fans get to see the two biggest stars in the sport face off, and Hollywood gets to release another unoriginal, lowbrow piece of mindless T & A-based media for numb-brained America to munch on.
