Will Muschamp was fired as the head coach of the Florida Gators after another disappointing season but the fiery defensive-minded coach won’t be out of work for long. His talents as a defensive coordinator have already gotten him calls from a number of schools looking to improve their defense and even a couple of unidentified NFL squads for 2015. Here are the top 5 landing spots for Will Muschamp in 2015.

Despite a defense stacked with talent like JJ Watt, Houston ranks No. 27 in the NFL in Total Defense this season. That could spark a need for change at Defensive Coordinator, pushing Romeo Crennel out and welcoming in a fresh face like Muschamp for 2015.

4. Atlanta Falcons DC

Despite leading the NFC South, Atlanta has been a mess this season and their defense has not helped matters. They rank No. 22 in Scoring Defense and dead last at No. 32 for Total Defense. That could spell an exit for Mike Nolan as DC this offseason (among other possible changes), opening the door for Muschamp to take over.

3. South Carolina Gamecocks DC

Steve Spurrier isn’t getting any younger and needs to inject some new life into his defense at South Carolina. He’s made no qualms about aggressively courting Muschamp to Columbia to be the Gamecocks’ next DC after the team finished No. 13 in the SEC in Total Defense last season. Plus, who knows how to console a former Florida head coach like another former Florida head coach?

2. Texas A&M Aggies DC

The Aggies might have been in the mix for a national title the last few seasons if not for their porous defense. Texas A&M ranked dead last in the SEC in Total Defense last season and put their DC job on the market over Thanksgiving weekend when they fired Mark Snyder. Muschamp would bring instant credibility to a defense that has been a major liability to the Aggies.

Reports are that the Auburn DC job, which opened up after the Tigers parted ways with Ellis Johnson, is Muschamp’s for the taking if he wants it. Auburn is where Muschamp really took off as one of college football’s top defensive coaches and a return to his old stomping grounds could be just what he needs to shake off the stink of losing the gig at Florida.
