Tim Beck has made his move through the years. He was at Kansas when Todd Reesing was thrashing defenses with his passing and running ability. He made the move to Nebraska, and after a few years, was promoted to Offensive Coordinator.

Tim was able to learn from a Bill Callahan holdover in Shawn Watson. Watson, who was not the most popular figure among Husker fans, was still a coordinator with a lot of know-how. Tim was able to learn under him for a few years before being thrust into the spotlight.

Now, it’s the Tim Beck show. His inexperience has be evident at times (Wisconsin), but he also has made quite a few calls this year that were absolutely perfect.

Tim does show a favoritism to the zone read and speed option. Sometimes he will call the play multiple times in a row, and that puts the Husker offense in a tough spot.

At other times, Tim has called nearly the exact same four plus times in a row, except for the fact that the play is run to the opposite side of the field.

Tim still has a lot to learn. It would definitely help if he would not continue to call those plays. I think he should call a few more screens. For the most part, we have not seen that at all this year. A bubble screen or two to Jamal Turner, in space, would also benefit this offense immensely.

What I do like about Tim Beck is that he has usually made adjustments quickly and efficiently, but not all the time. He has done a much better job than Shawn Watson at that, and it has shown.

Now, Tim Beck is still learning. He has a long way to go to become the next great offensive coordinator in college football, but he is off to the right start.
