Joe Nicholson-US PRESSWIRE

Former Seattle Seahawks linebacker Lofa Tatupu met with the New Orleans Saints this past Monday. It is no secret that the Saints are looking to add depth to some of their defensive positions and the Tatupu is apparently being considered. Tatupu did not play this past season after being released by the Seattle Seahawks. If the Saints chose to sign Tatupu they would be getting a former Pro-Bowler who has experience in the NFL. However, Tatupu did not play last season and I have to wonder how good of shape he is in, especially since it was a lockout season. Furthermore, it is known that Tatupu has had injuries to both his knees which could be a problem if he were to re-injure his knees.

Tatupu is a middle linebacker just like Saints captain, Jonathan Vilma. I wonder why the Saints would want to sign a player that essentially does the same things their star player, Vilma, does. Nevertheless, if the Saints do decide to sign Tatupu it would provide some depth at the MLB position which could come in handy if Vilma gets injured again. However, the risk of Tatupu getting injured again is high since he has had knee injuries in the past. Either way, it is obvious the Saints are doing whatever they can to try and bring in some more defensive pieces for Steve Spagnuolo to work with.
