Jim O'Connor-US PRESSWIRE

I figured the New York Giants were going to make some sort of move along the offensive line. I just didn’t think it would necessarily be this one. The Giants claimed D.J. Jones off waivers from the Philadelphia Eagles and released guard Mitch Petrus.

Petrus was the Giants’ fifth round pick in 2010. He started three of the six games that he appeared in for the New York Giants. The former Arkansas Razorback appeared to fall down the depth chart throughout the preseason, which ended in his release.

Jones was undrafted last year out of Nebraska. He signed with the Miami Dolphins for training camp and ended up being waived twice and placed on their practice squad. He ended up on the Baltimore Ravens practice squad and was claimed by Philadelphia back in February.

I wouldn’t be surprised again if the Giants waived Jones and they end up claiming someone else. The Giants do need a little insurance at the tackle position with the uncertainty of Will Beatty’s back. They guy has been waived by so many teams and if they need another defensive tackle, perhaps he could be the guy to go if Beatty is back and healthy.
