Will the New York Jets Regret Missing Out on Tavon Austin?

(Jerry Lai/USA Today Sports)

The New York Jets managed to land two first-round picks in the 2013 NFL Draft and even though they selected two defensive players–it’s difficult not to wonder if the team will end up wishing they managed to land former West Virginia wide receiver Tavon Austin.

It’s no secret the Jets could have certainly used some help on offense and considering Austin is arguably the most talented wide receiver in this year’s class–New York certainly could have used a weapon like him on offense. Not only has Austin proven himself as a wide receiver, but he’s shown to be just as dangerous in the ground game as well.

In other words–there’s a good chance Austin would have made an immediate impact on offense for the Jets.

The St. Louis Rams knew if they didn’t move ahead of the Jets to snag Austin at No. 8, there would have been a good chance he wouldn’t have been available later in the round. Plus, the Rams were just as desperate for a wide receiver as the Jets–so they knew they had to do whatever it takes to make sure they landed the talented wide receiver.

Still, only time will tell when it comes to whether or not the Jets will regret missing out on Austin. There’s no question New York certainly drafted two defensive players, but it was also no secret they could have used plenty of help on the offense as well–especially at wide receiver.
