It has not been the best week for Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Riley Cooper after a video of him went viral from a Kenny Chesney concert in which he used a racial slur towards one of the security guards. Since then, Cooper has done everything in his power to apologize for the incident as he hopes the city of Philadelphia and football fans across the country can one day find it in their hearts to forgive him, but given the circumstances of the situation–it certainly won’t be easy.

Now, it appears Cooper will be stepping away from the team for a period of time as he seeks counseling for his use of a a racial slur–which is the right move by the organization.

While there’s no excuse for Cooper’s actions, one can only imagine what the last couple of days have been like for the wide receiver and it certainly isn’t going to be easy for him to recover from. Not only has Cooper been forced to deal with the reactions from members of the media, but his teammates as well–some of which who may never forgive him for what he said.

There’s no question this incident has brought an uncomfortable feeling around training camp as there were even reports how there were times where Cooper was standing alone numerous times throughout practice on Thursday. With Jeremy Maclin out for the season, Philadelphia had high expectations for Cooper to fill in the No. 2 wideout at wide receiver, but there’s no telling what the future holds for him after an incident like this.

Only time will tell, but the important factor here is Cooper is seeking the help he needs by going to counseling and let’s hope this pays off for both Cooper and the Eagles.
