Not only did the Detroit Lions suffer a close loss to the Arizona Cardinals this past Sunday, but there’s also some concern over star wide receiver Calvin Johnson‘s elbow after apparently injuring it during a sideline catch in the third quarter. On Sunday night, Johnson told Michael Rothstein of ESPN that he wasn’t worried about his elbow possibly causing him to miss any games going forward.
Sean d’Oliveira of CBS Sports mentioned on Monday that the Lions don’t expect Johnson to miss any time, and that head coach Jim Caldwell stated his injury won’t cause him to have any possible long-term issues with his elbow. The coach also said he expects Johnson to play this coming Sunday against the New England Patriots. Even if Johnson were to miss some time, however, the Lions went 3-0 during the three weeks he was held out earlier in the season with an ankle injury.
There’s no doubt that the addition of wide receiver Golden Tate in free agency has really helped Detroit’s offense. He’s been a monster while hauling in 68 receptions for 950 yards and three touchdowns through 10 games this season so far. Johnson and the Lions finally have a legit No. 2 receiver.
At the end of the day, there seems to be good news as the Lions’ high-powered offense gets ready to face off against Tom Brady and the Patriots this week.
