The New York Jets need to fix their quarterback situation in 2015. Neither Michael Vick or Geno Smith is the answer, and the team should pursue a free agent veteran quarterback to help bolster what should be an open competition for the starting job come training camp. Here are the top five free agent quarterbacks who the Jets should consider.

McCown has spent all of 2014 riding the bench as a backup, but his decade of NFL experience would be useful to the Jets. He showed signs of being able to keep the chains moving during the preseason and is considered a decent veteran who gets the job done.

Orlovsky has a spotty past, considering that crazy season in 2008 that saw him lead the Detroit Lions to an 0-16 record. However, he has worked diligently on his mechanics and abilities since then, and could thrive with the Jets considering it's a much better situation than what he has with the Lions. He could mentor Geno Smith and also provide a nice veteran presence in the locker room.

3. QB Colt McCoy

McCoy showed flashes of starting potential while filling in for Robert Griffin III. At one point, he was even considered to be the permanent starter since Griffin was slumping. McCoy is set to be a free agent and would be a great fit with the Jets since he can play mistake-free football.

2. QB Shaun Hill

Hill did well when stepping in for Sam Bradford, moving the ball effectively and always making smart decisions when throwing the football. Considering he ended the season with a 83.9 QBR, he would be a nice reliable option for the Jets to get the job done.

1. QB Brian Hoyer

Hoyer will be the most targeted free agent in 2015. He is the kind of dynamic quarterback who could be extremely efficient when in the right system. Hoyer expects the Cleveland Browns to give him a contract worthy of a starter, but might not get it. The Jets could give him that and more.
