Who doesn’t love a little healthy competition? The San Francisco 49ers certainly enjoy it. Inside Levi Stadium, a competition is underway for cornerbacks on the 49ers’ roster. However, the two CBs said to be competing are unfamiliar names.

Keith Reaser and Kenneth Acker are currently competing vigorously for their spots on the 53-man roster of the franchise. Reaser was drafted in the fifth round in 2014, but spent the entire year on the non-football injury list after surgery on his ACL from an injury that occurred before the 49ers drafted him.

Acker, who was originally thought to be a standout and a draft steal as a 2014 sixth-round pick, sat the season out as well. A stress fracture in his foot prevented him from seeing the field after initially impressing his coaching staff in training camp. Head coach Jim Tomsula has been observing the competition between the now-ready and hopeful players, saying that the two young corners are approaching it without rookie nerves.

However, it was Reaser  who reportedly stood out in practice on Friday. In one of the best defensive of the plays of the day, he made his way into the middle of the field to stop a pass from Blaine Gabbert that was intended for Jerome Simpson. He stated he feels like his speed and his impact are back with a vengeance after a year of rehabbing his injury. Reaser was also confident that the starting spots were up for anyone to grab.

Some of the players Reaser could have been implying he is in competition with are Shareece Wright,  Chris Cook, Tramaine Brock, Marcus Cromartie, and Dontae Johnson.
