Vancouver Canucks Fail to Clinch Playoff Spot Against Dallas Stars

Jim Cowsert – USA TODAY Sports

Tonight the Vancouver Canucks could have secured a playoff berth with a win against the Dallas Stars, but failed to do so because of sloppy play and in the process enabled the Stars to edge closer to a playoff spot themselves.

The main problem in this game was turnovers especially in the third period.  The biggest were two at the hands of Zack Kassian who not only forced a pass, but also gave one away and both of which turned into goals.  Although Kassian was not the only player who was guilty of committing turnovers especially with a final score of 5-1, he is the one that many have been insisting should play a bigger role on the team.  This game does not bode well for that argument at all.

The Canucks will get another opportunity to clinch a playoff spot this Saturday when the Detroit Red Wings come to town, but if they continue to commit turnovers the Red Wings are a team that will no doubt take full advantage of it and deny Vancouver of another chance at clinching one.
