Irish Should Stay Away From Green Uniforms This Weekend Against USC
Leading up to Saturday’s kick off against USC, talk is still surrounding whether or not Notre Dame will come out of the tunnel in their green uniforms. Except for the last time USC came into South Bend, Notre Dame had worn their green uniforms two straight times against the Trojans.
For the second straight time, I think they should avoid wearing their green uniforms against their hated rival in the Trojans from Southern Cal.
It’s not like I don’t like them. In fact, I actually love them, especially the ones they were back in 2007 when the Irish got blown out 38-0. Heck, green is even my favorite color, but I think the usage of the green uniforms has become way too common in recent years.
Notre Dame hasn’t had the greatest success wearing the jerseys either. If you take away their two wins against Army back in 2006 and last year at Yankee Stadium, I am pretty sure they have lost every other time where they wore the green. That doesn’t make it attractive to put them on.
It used to be where they were wore the green in only special circumstances. That why it was so shocking when they did in 2005 in “Bush Push” game. Not a single person in the stadium had any idea they were going to come out in them because they had worn their normal blue and gold uni’s during warmups. That is what made it so special.
The Irish have already worn a special uniform earlier in the Michigan game. Words in this blog can’t describe how much I loved those jerseys and I hope they wore them again in the future. Too bad there wasn’t a different result in the game with those sweet uniforms.
Continuing to wear different tops and bottoms numerous of times during the season is unnecessary though. Schools throughout the country continue to do it whether it be for recruiting or financial reasons, but most of those schools don’t have the rich history that Notre Dame has.
There is nothing like seeing the blue and gold coming out of the tunnel and those helmets should have a special glow to them under the lights on Saturday. Hopefully they won’t have the green uniforms to go along with them.
