OKLAHOMA CITY – Kevin Durant has always been known for being a grounded and humble player. All Durant wants to do is play basketball, and be in the gym. He never was one of those players who would play all arrogant and say stupid stuff to the media. He plays and lets his game do the talking.

Not this time.

In an interview with Michael Lee of The Washington Post, Durant said this about it being ‘his time’:

“I’ve heard a few times, in three or four years, this league is going to be yours. . . . I don’t like that. Because I think I’m established now. My time is now,” Durant said, “I feel as though I’ve proved myself these last five years that I can be one of the top players in the league. I’ve got a long way to go to being the ultimate best, but I think my time is now. And I’m starting to enter my prime.”

“I always felt that I belonged on top with those guys and I just have to continue to keep working to maintain that,” Durant said. “It feels good to be a part of a great group of guys, to do something special for the country. We all respected each other and they never looked at me as the younger guy coming up and waiting his turn. They were just, ‘Go out there and play, do what you do.’ And that’s what I did.”

I know for myself, but I also think Oklahoma City Thunder fans, were happy to hear this. I was almost waiting for Durant to come out and say such a thing.  He deserves to be in the conversation with LeBron and Kobe as the best players in the game (if not the best).

Being humble is a great characteristic to have, but it comes to a point where if someone asks you something like that, you have to be honest. If you disagree that its Durant ‘time’ then just look at his track record:

AP Player of the Year at Texas

Rookie of the Year

3-time scoring champion

All-Star MVP

3-time MVP

Western Conference Champion

Appearance in the NBA Finals

Yeah, you could say this is ‘his time’.
