NBA Rumors: Andre Iguodala Staying On South Broad
According to a report that came out earlier this week, it seems as though Andre Iguodala will be staying in Philadelphia until the end of his contract is up. Sources have told Steve Kyler, NBA Editor of Hoops World, that a trade would be “highly unlikely” heading into training camp.
Regardless of what reports have come out this week, it would be in the better interest of Doug Collins and the Philadelphia 76ers to keep their “star” wing player until his contract is up. I say the term “star” as loosely as possible looking at the type of player Iguodala is. Iggy is a phenomenal slasher, stat sheet stuffer, and all-world perimeter defender (as being put on display in the Olympics), however he shouldn’t be a “go to guy” on a Sixers roster.
Iggy is mostly set up as the second option in a starting rotation and needs to be put as one in the last two years of his contract if the 76ers look to have any larger hopes of success in the playoffs. With the growth of guard Jrue Holiday, it seems as though Iggy might not have to be the number one option offensively for the Sixers. Holiday averaged 13.5 points per contest in the 2011-2012 NBA season while Iguodala only averaged 12.4 points per game, if Holiday could step into three to five more points a game the Sixers might be a little more well off.
Also with the addition of Nick Young and Dorell Wright off the bench, Iguodala won’t be left to do all the scoring this season. The season looks hopeful after all the signings and trades the 76ers have gone through in the last month of the off-season, with any luck they’ll be a force in the Atlantic Division this season.
Or they will slip out of the playoffs faster than James Harden to Nigeria’s Tony Skinn via crossover. Sorry James. Had to do it to you.
